It’s always exciting when something new opens in Covent Garden. Amazingly, it does happen pretty regularly. This week I visited the latest offering from the owners of French restaurants Terroirs (which is also in Covent Garden), Brawn and Soif.
The Green Man and French Horn is a converted pub as the name implies. The long, thin room looks and feels like a familiar French bistro.
The food is inspired by the Loire region and is simply delicious. We tucked into beetroot, watercress and anchovy salad and mackerel tartare to start. Both beautifully fresh, light starters.
For mains it was girolles and artichokes with a warm egg yolk, rich, earthy flavours of autumn to savour and the plat du jour, Vendee ham and beans. A simple, perfect rustic plate of food that was packed with taste.
The wine list reads like a book, full of wines from the Loire to try.
You can also eat at the bar, which is a big trend coming through this year – more casual dining seems to be the way to go. A wonderful new addition to the Covent Garden collection.
